D365 Support for Different Languages

D365 Support for Different Languages

This article describes the D365 Support for Different Languages and their supported configurations for different language versions for Customer Engagement system. It doesn’t include the information about Microsoft Dynamics 365 Language Pack support, but instead explains the supported configurations for the base-language versions.

The Customer Engagement (on-premises) version requires the following software:

  • Microsoft Windows Server
  • A Microsoft Windows ServerActive Directory infrastructure
  • An Internet Information Services (IIS) website
  • Claims-based security token service (required for Internet-facing deployments)
  • SQL Server
  • SQL Server Reporting Services
  • Microsoft Exchange Server or access to the POP3-compliant email server (required for email tracking)
  • SharePoint Server (required for document management)
  • The supported device, Dynamics 365 for Customer Engagement app, or the web browser, such as later versions of Internet Explorer or the latest versions of Apple Safari, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox
  • Microsoft Office for the Dynamics 365 for Outlook and other Office integration features

Server Language Requirements for D365 Support

D365 Support

Server Language

The following requirements must be met when you run the Dynamics 365 Server with applications such as SQL Server. Note that all the available Customer Engagement languages are supported.

Dynamics 365 for Customer Engagement product Requirement
Dynamics 365 Server The base language of the Windows Server, SQL Server, Microsoft .NET Framework, MDAC, and MSXML must be either the same language as Dynamics 365 Server or English. If an application isn’t available in a certain language, the English version can be used.
Dynamics 365 for Outlook The base language of the Windows Server, SQL Server 2008 Express Edition, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Office, Microsoft .NET Framework, MDAC, and MSXML don’t have to be the same language as Dynamics 365 for Outlook.

Each client stack in a single deployment can be in a different language.

Dynamics 365 Server and Dynamics 365 for Outlook The base language version of the Dynamics 365 Server must match that of Dynamics 365 for Outlook.

For example, there can’t be some users who run the German version of the Dynamics 365 for Outlook while other users run the English version.

For example, you could have the following configuration with German as the base language for all the programs:

  • Dynamics 365 Server
  • Windows Server
  • SQL Server
  • Microsoft Exchange Server
  • MSXML
  • .NET Framework

As another example, you could have Dynamics 365 Server with Swedish as its base language, and it could be configured with the following applications that have English as their base language:

  • Windows Server
  • SQL Server
  • Microsoft Exchange Server
  • MSXML
  • .NET Framework

Server Hardware Requirements for D365 Support

Server Hardware

Server Hardware

The following table lists the minimum and the recommended hardware requirements for this version of Dynamics 365 Server running in a Full Server configuration. These requirements assume that the additional components such as SQL Server, SQL Server Reporting Services, SharePoint, or Microsoft Exchange Server aren’t installed or running on the system.

Component *Minimum *Recommended
Processor x64 architecture or the compatible dual-core 1.5 GHz processor Quad-core x64 architecture 2 GHz CPU or higher such as AMD Opteron or Intel Xeon systems
Memory 4 GB RAM Either 8 GB RAM or more
Hard disk 10 GB of the available hard disk space 40 GB or more of the available hard disk space

* Actual requirements and the product functionality may vary based on your system configuration and operating system.

Running Dynamics 365 for Customer Engagement on a computer that has less than the recommended requirements may result in inadequate performance. Computers with more than 16 GB of RAM will require more disk space for the paging, hibernation, and dump files. The minimum and the recommended requirements are based on 320-user load simulation tests.

Server Software Requirements for D365 Support

The specific versions and the editions of Windows Server that are supported for installing and running this version of Dynamics 365 Server are listed in the following sections.

  • Supported Windows Server 2016 Editions
Windows Server 2016

Windows Server 2016

The following editions of the Windows Server 2016 operating system are supported for installing and running the Dynamics 365 Server:

  1. Windows Server 2016 Standard
  2. Windows Server 2016 Datacenter
  • Server Core Installations

With the exception of the MS Dynamics 365 for Customer Engagement Help Server and Microsoft Dynamics 365 Reporting Extensions roles, you can install any Dynamics 365 Server server role on a Server Core installation of Windows Server. Server Core is a minimal server installation option for the Windows Server family of the operating systems. The Server Core provides a low-maintenance server environment with limited functionality.

Server Virtualization

Dynamics 365 for Customer Engagement servers for D365 Support can be deployed in a virtualized environment by using Windows Server 2016 with Hyper-V or virtualization solutions from vendors who participate in the Microsoft Windows Server Virtualization Validation Program.

Active Directory Modes

The computer that the Dynamics 365 Server is running on must be a member of a domain that is running in one of the following Active Directory directory service forest and domain functional levels:

  • Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2
  • Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2

SQL Server Editions

Anyone of the following SQL Server editions is required, running, and available for the Dynamics 365 for Customer Engagement:

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2016 Enterprise, with the Cumulative Update 2
  • SQL Server 2016 Standard, with the Cumulative Update 2
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2016 Developer, with the Cumulative Update 2 (for non-production use only)

Software Component Prerequisites

The following SQL Server components must be installed and running on the computer that is running the SQL Server before you install Dynamics 365 Server:

  • SQL word breakers
  • The SQL Server Agent service and the SQL Server full-text indexing

The following components must be installed and running on the computer where the Dynamics 365 Server will be installed:

  • Services
  1. Indexing Service
  2. IIS Admin
  3. World Wide Web Publishing
  4. Net.TCP Port Sharing Service

Before you install the Dynamics 365 Server, you should understand the following:

  • SQL Server can be but is not required to be, installed on the same computer as the Dynamics 365 Server.
  • If the Dynamics 365 Server and SQL Server are installed on different computers, both computers must be in the same Active Directory directory service domain.
  • SQL Server can be installed by using either the Windows Authentication or mixed-mode authentication. (Windows Authentication is recommended for increased security and Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Customer Engagement will use only Windows Authentication).
  • The service account that the SQL Server uses to log on to the network must be either a domain user account (recommended) or one of the built-in system accounts supported by SQL Server. Installation of the Dynamics 365 Server will fail if the SQL Server service account is the local administrator.
  • SQL Server service must be started and can also be configured to automatically start when the computer is started.
  • The SQL Server Reporting Services service must be started and then configured to automatically start when the computer is started.
  • The SQL Server Agent service must be started. This service can be configured to automatically start when the computer is started.
  • Although it is optional, you can accept the SQL Server default settings for the Collation Designator, Sort Order, and SQL Collation. D365 Support includes both case-sensitive and case-insensitive sort orders.
  • Microsoft Dynamics 365 Server Setup requires at least one network protocol to be enabled to authenticate by using the SQL Server. By default, the TCP/IP protocol is enabled when you install SQL Server. You can view the network protocols in the SQL Server Configuration Manager.
