Analysis Dashboard of Data Management For AX

With Analysis dashboard functionality of the Intelligent Data Management Framework (IDMF) for Microsoft Dynamics AX, you can analyze production databases, archive databases, and application health statistics.

By default, the Analysis menu starts when you open the IDMF. Use it to analyze various performance and data-related aspects of the production and archive databases. From this menu, you can also view the SQL database configuration for all the databases used by the IDMF.

Analysis Dashboard

The analysis dashboard provides a graphical view of the production and archive databases.

The controls and commands that are available for the analysis dashboard are similar for the production database and the archive database. When you click the dashboard command for the production dashboard, it becomes unavailable to visually distinguish the database that is being used.

You must first schedule and complete running the analysis snapshot by using the Schedule menu before you can access the dashboard functionality. At least two database schedules must be completed before the database growth trend and the row count trend charts appear.

Dashboard Information

The Analysis dashboard command shows a graphical view of either the production or archive database, depending on the command that was selected from the ribbon.

The following table describes the graphs that are available in the dashboard:

Graph Description
Top 10 tables by row count Displays a pie chart that shows a graphical view of the top 10 tables by row count. The chart shows the name of the table and the number of rows when you point to an area. The percentage shown for each table is calculated from the number of rows in the table versus the total rows in the top 10 tables.

Click a particular area to move to the analysis detail section for that particular table.

Top 10 tables by data size Displays a pie chart that shows a graphical view of the top 10 tables by data size. The chart shows the name of the table and the size of the table when you point to an area. The percentage shown for each table is calculated from the size of the table versus the total size of the top 10 tables.

Clicking a particular area moves you to the analysis detail section for that particular table.

Top 10 tables by index size Displays a pie chart that shows a graphical view of the top 10 tables by index size. The chart shows the name of the table and the size of the index when you point to an area. The percentage shown for each table is calculated from the size of the index of the table versus the total index size of the top 10 tables.

Clicking a particular area moves you to the analysis detail section for that particular table.

Table and index space Displays two pie charts. The first chart provides a graphical view of the tablespace that is used by the top 10 tables versus the other tables.

The second chart provides a graphical view of the index space that is used by the top 10 tables versus the other tables.

Database growth trend Provides trend analysis of your database over multiple snapshots. You must have a minimum of two snapshots to see the trend analysis. The

trend analysis processes the 10 most recent snapshots. Snapshots that are older than the 10 most recent snapshots are not included in the trend analysis.

Row count trend Provides trend analysis of the row count of your database over multiple snapshots. You must have a minimum of two snapshots to see the trend analysis. The trend analysis processes

the 10 most recent snapshots. Snapshots that are older than the 10 most recent snapshots are not included in the trend analysis

You can reposition the charts on the screen by clicking and dragging the title bar of the chart. Each of these charts can also be maximized by clicking the maximize button on the upper-right corner of the chart.

Note: The dashboard image differs from what you see in your virtual machine. This is because the courseware image uses different sample data and only has one snapshot.

How to Use the Analysis Dashboard

This demonstration shows how to use the Analysis dashboard. You will learn how to work with the user interface (UI), find a table that is contributing to a significant part of the index size, and moves to the details for this table

Note: You must install IDMF using the labs or demonstrations in the Installation Module before being able to perform this demonstration
